Bowen Technique Therapy is a gentle, manual therapy that is safe for most people including the very young and the very old. It addresses a wide range of problems with a gentle strumming technique called the "Bowen move." Perhaps you have been lulled into tranquility while receiving Bowen or have experienced relief from decades of pain after just a few sessions. If not, here's your opportunity to find a therapist in the directory and give it a try!
The Bowen technique was developed by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982) of Australia. He was a self-taught therapist and a gifted healer. Over the years, he allowed several therapists to observe and learn from him. He asked, however, that the technique not be taught until after his death. For this reason, Bowen Therapy is a relatively new modality. There are various interpretations of the work from those that observed him at different times as the method evolved. They are all very effective. Today, Bowen Therapy is practiced world wide allowing many to benefit from Tom Bowen's healing technique.
Bowen Therapy prompts the body to self-regulate. Your body does the healing, the Bowen move provides the impetus. Bowen Therapy has many applications from maintaining health and the prevention of sport's injuries to addressing tough chronic problems. Following is a short list of conditions that are commonly treated with Bowen.
carpal tunnel syndrome
pain of all sorts
How can Bowen Therapy address such a wide range of conditions? Many Bowen moves are applied over acupuncture points, so in part it harnesses the power of acupuncture but without the needles. Some Bowen moves are strategically placed to release fascial restrictions which allows structures in the body to function properly. Some explain the effects of Bowen through "feed-back loops." As science uncovers the intricate functioning of the human body, we will gain a a better understanding of this amazing holistic therapy.
Bowen Therapy does not substitute for the services of a medical, osteopathic, or naturopathic physician. Individuals are encouraged to consult with qualified physicians for medical conditions.
